The wilderness experience

Situated in Tasmania’s north-west, the Tarkine Forest Reserve is a huge area of cool temperate rainforest, sand dunes and coastal heathland with strong links to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people.  The Tarkine is roughly bounded by the west coast, the Arthur River to the north, the Pieman River to the south and Murchison Highway to the East.

Although not a designated national park the area contains a wildly diverse landscape  – including Australia’s largest patch of temperate rainforest and a world of natural treasures including mountain ranges, wild rivers and cave systems, buttongrass moorlands and a rugged coastline with long sandy beaches.

Access to the Forest is available via the property and guided walking tours can be organised for groups, as we partner with Basil O’Halloran from Rare Earth Tasmania who is a local guide licensed to take groups into State owned forests for guided tours.
